Interpretive guided hikes in the Rocky Mountains
Bear Country Guiding & Consulting provides a wide range of customizable interpretive guided hikes, from easy walks to moderate and more challenging full day trips in Kananaskis Country – home to several Alberta Provincial Parks – as well as in Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks. These protected areas provide world-class alpine and subalpine hiking opportunities because of their breathtaking scenery, expansive landscapes and exceptional trail networks.
Beyond our passion for mountains and wildlife we are able to provide meaningful, engaging interpretation because of our professional backgrounds in biology and human-wildlife coexistence. We help our guests better understand wildlife, ecosystems, and safer recreation in bear country by explaining the intricate connections between flora, fauna, species and their natural environment. Every tour includes a thorough bear awareness and safety field program focusing on situational awareness and prevention, by providing insights into black and grizzly bear ecology and behavior.
While wildlife is our focus, the mountains are the stage – shaping habitats and ecosystems, and every experience we share. Our goal is to create lasting memories while equipping our guests with practical, potentially life saving knowledge in bear and wildlife awareness and safety.
By combining hands-on field programs with human-wildlife conflict prevention and mitigation services we help people and wildlife safely share the landscape – this is conservation in practice.
Unlike other companies in the area, we are based in Calgary, which provides guests joining us from the city convenient transportation arrangements.

“Tibor took us on trails to explore. The day was sunny while the scenery and mountains were beautiful. We followed the trail along the beach of the lake. Tibor was so kind to point out hazards such as tree roots, loose rocks, etc., and he was on alert for any possible bear encounter. Tibor is very knowledgeable about wildlife, and we learned much from him. He has a big heart for animals. Tibor picked a very nice lakefront spot for a snack. Very scenic! We really enjoyed the chat with him! We had a very relaxing “ Zen” day on the trails, with no worries at all [fear of getting lost]! Next time we are in Calgary, I would not hesitate to call up Tibor for another hike to explore more of the Kananaskis/Banff area!”
