Wildlife Focused Interpretive Guided Hikes in the Canadian Rockies

A wide variety of interpretive guided hikes are available from easy half day trips to medium or more strenuous day hikes in Kananaskis Country as well as in Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks.

We will customize your hike to your ambitions, experience, and fitness level (on private hikes, see below).

You can choose from an easy half day hike, such as along a scenic mountain lake, to a more difficult full day hike up to a mountain peak, a gorgeous viewpoint, or a colourful alpine meadow.

Included in our interpretation, you will also receive a thorough bear safety education throughout the hike.

If you are a tourist or a new hiker, we can start with the basics about hiking, wildlife, and mountains. With local and/or more experienced people we can go further into both details and distance.

If you are afraid of hiking in bear country, we will help you feel safer and more confident in this wonderland.

If you are overconfident…, well then, we can show you why you should not be.

If you like to hear stories, you bet you will hear a whole collection of them throughout the day. Our interpretation is interactive, meaning you can also share your wildlife experience with the rest of the group. We can discuss it and learn from it together.

We are not a wildlife viewing enterprise. In fact, we teach our guests how to avoid close wildlife encounters that carry a substantial risk for both people and animals involved.

Nevertheless, we see wildlife during every trip, and since we hike in bear country, chances always are to see even grizzly and black bears. However, we usually see animals from a safe distance. At the same time, nothing is guaranteed in the wilderness, and this is why we promote and teach bear and wildlife safety practices.

We also find signs of wildlife activity on each hike. They might include lots of different things, like tracks, scats, hair, chewing or claw marks on trees, diggings, and many more. Nature will assure there won’t be two hikes that are the same, even on the same trail.

Likewise, our spontaneous style will ensure you will always hear something new if you return to hike with us again. We focus on wildlife, but we will also explain about geology and vegetation and the intricate relationships between mountains, plants, and animals.
