Wildlife Conflict Prevention and Mitigation
We wish to give back to the public and provide free, human-carnivore conflict prevention and mitigation services for those who live or have recreational properties in bear and cougar country.
These include:
- site assessments of natural and unnatural attractants and further factors that can draw bears and other predators to your property;
- consulting on attractant management;
- area monitoring by wildlife cameras;
- assisting to deploy deterrent devices;
- as well as related outreach and education.
We do not trap problem wildlife, but we can help you to scare them away (with the right devices) or, preferably, to prevent them from coming to your property. The area we cover free is West Calgary, Canmore as well as parts of Rocky View County, MD of Foothills, MD of Bighorn, MD of Mountain View, and Clearwater County.
This is the region which we can service within a one-day trip. If you need our help, please contact us to find out if the area where you live qualifies.
Depending on our availability, we might be willing to go farther for a multiday trip, however, for that we need to charge for our travel and accommodation expenses. We believe this is a fruitful service, because Fish and Wildlife Officers are often overwhelmed by work, and their resources are limited.
We wish to help not only people but wildlife, as well. Once bears associate food with humans (become ‘food conditioned’) their faith usually gets sealed. Meaning they will eventually get relocated or ‘euthanized’. It is even worse for cougars. Once they get captured for conflict management purposes, they cannot be relocated, by law they must be put down.
We are also happy to help you in case you have trouble with smaller predators, such as coyotes or bobcats, as well as if you do not know what kind of animal is lurking around your property and you would like to figure it out.
